We were teachers once... and young

Haha, to those who think it is a familiar phrase, it is. Taken from the book (and later adapted to a film) "We were soldiers once... and young". Then again i wasn't cut out for the military and thus this tiltle appears. Anyway, the concept is similar, " Those who have seen a classroom, will never stop seeing a classroom" (haha, awfully familiar right? :P :P :P)

Indeed, the experience that you have everyday in the classroom will be etched deeply in ones mind. Afterall we are dealing with students, the everyday experience is much more unexpected. Any event that happens will be remembered for a long long time...

Indeed the job nature of this profession can sometimes be kind (long holidays? not actually long because of courses in between and meetings and planning...) or can be unkind (Overtime, much way over with no compensation, only more white eye :S) It sometime make one wonders why are we doing this anyway?

This is the time for reflection, why do one want to be a teacher? (As the movie suggest, he who does not fight the war should try to at least understand it) WE are all teachers in someway just that we didn't noticed it. To the elder brother who teaches his younger brother how to ride a bicycle, or another who explain to an elderly how to top up his ezlink card or even the vegetable seller explaining the different varieties of vegetables. We are no different from them, just that we make it full time.

Without the teachers, the basics which students need to know before they handle more advanced stuff will not be strengthened. A student may never get to touch biology related stuff ever, but the reasoning and analytical skills that are learnt will definitely be useful. Those who build up their foundation in their mother tongue will definitely find it useful to converse with another when the time comes.

I am glad to be in this proffesion (though there are times of up and down [lots of down though :P]) where we get to be in the front line of building talents (if there are any) because when we become old, i can tell our children and their children that we were teachers once... and young, that we are proud of that :)

Dedicated to all teachers out there who feels down and out (or being blogged down by admin stuff and what not), you are one great individual (like myself :P :P :P)
